Takes place in his past
The atmosphere around the table was somewhat awkward. Collin didn’t seem to have anything to say, surprisingly. Like usual Mr. Wayne and Josh didn’t speak with each other and Mrs. Wayne was just sitting there, eating quietly. Travis glanced around at everyone. He hated when it was like this. It seemed like everyone in the Wayne family hated to be the first to spark a conversation! At the farm, they’d probably be all laughing and talking about something that had happened that day, but not here. Here everyone just ate their food quietly and then went to separate rooms after dinner. Mr. Wayne, who Travis had soon learned used to be Batman, always went off to the Bat Cave; Collin always went to her room and ended up talking on the phone for hours with her friends; Mrs. Wayne usually went to the library and read some books on cats; and Josh usually went to his room and did some research or whatever he had to do for Young Justice. Travis, on the other hand, normally snuck out and went flying for a bit to clear his head. Several times he almost got hit by a plane. Man, there were too many people in Gotham compared to Smallville. Travis set his fork down and asked if he could be excused. Thankfully, Mr. Wayne said yes.
Travis left the dining room and wandered the halls until he finally made it to the garden out back. It was beautiful, thanks to Mrs. Wayne always having people come over and take care of it. When the windows to the house were open, the flowers’ smell was blown in and danced all around the house, covering up the smell of the pollution that came with living in a large city. He looked up and took off flying. The wind was cool and it felt good against Travis’s skin. Travis didn’t find the need to put one arm in front of him like his father had. He just simply kept both arms at his side. Several times he had to dodge a flock of birds, screeching at him angrily. Thankfully no planes were flying in his area. Even though he had gotten used to paying attention, every now and then Travis did space out. He flew all the way to Metropolis, where he landed on the top of where his mother used to work, the Daily Planet.
“Gosh it hasn’t changed a bit,” he mumbled under his breath as he looked at the city bellow him, “Not even the slightest bit since dad took me here one time.” He didn’t know why he was there. For all he knew his father could’ve spotted him...but Travis didn’t seem worried about that. He had missed Metropolis and Smallville. He missed working on the farm with his dad, even if he did nothing but mess up. He remembered the day he ran away as if it was only yesterday. He had done nothing but think about how useless he was and how his family would be better off without him. Travis couldn’t help but wonder if he had been right. Did his family miss him? Were they getting by better without him? He sighed. Most likely they were. They probably didn’t even notice he was gone. His phone beeped, pulling Travis back into reality. It was a text from Josh asking where he was. He flipped it open. He thought about whether he should reply or not. He closed his phone and put it back in his pocket. Josh didn’t have to know everything he did. Besides, he wasn’t planning on staying in Metropolis for long. He had already been assigned the job of going to Jump City to see what Rider’s Deck had been up to, so why not start now? He leaped into the air and flew, heading straight to Jump City.
